Applying for the Law Admission Test sounds simple until you actually open the HEC portal. Every year, students in Lahore, Karachi, Multan, and Peshawar miss their exam not because they weren't ready — but because their application was sitting in "Saved" status instead of "Submitted", or because they paid a fee to the wrong website entirely.
This guide walks you through the exact registration process for the HEC LAT 2027 sessions, step by step, with every trap flagged along the way. Follow it in order and your application will be bulletproof.

Warning: Fake Registration Websites
Before anything else, one rule: the ONLY official portal for LAT registration is etc.hec.gov.pk. Never pay your fee to a private WhatsApp number, an "agent," or any website that looks like HEC but isn't. Real registration always happens inside your own ETC profile, and you generate your own fee invoice there. If anyone asks for your ETC password or offers to register you for a fee, walk away.
Step 1: Create Your ETC Profile
Open your browser and go to etc.hec.gov.pk. If this is your first time, click Sign Up and fill in the following:
- Nationality: select Pakistani.
- CNIC number: enter your 13-digit CNIC. Under 18? Use your B-Form number instead.
- Password: set a strong one and save it somewhere you will actually find it again.
- Mobile number and email: use an active number and an email you check. HEC sends OTPs (one-time passwords) to both for verification — and later, your roll number slip notifications.
Enter the OTPs you receive to verify your account. Already have an account from a previous year? Just log in — but double-check that your mobile number and email are still active, because HEC communicates through them.
Step 2: Complete Your Profile to 100%
Once logged in, open "My Profile." The portal will not let you apply for LAT until your profile is complete, so don't skip anything:
- Personal information: your name, father's name, date of birth, and mailing address — exactly as on your CNIC/B-Form.
- Photograph: a clear passport-size photo with a blue or white background, under 2MB. Blurry selfies get rejected, so get it right the first time.
- Education: add your qualifications starting from Matriculation/O-Levels, then Intermediate/A-Levels. If your Part-2 result is pending, select the "Result Awaiting" / "Hope Certificate" option — you do not need your final board result to register.
Step 3: Select the LAT Exam and Choose Your Test Center
Head to your dashboard and look for the active "Law Admission Test (LAT)" application link when a 2027 session is open. Click "Apply". You'll be asked to choose your preferred test center.
HEC conducts the LAT in major cities — Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad, Multan, Peshawar, Quetta, and others. Choose carefully: once your application is submitted, your center is generally locked in. Pick the city you can realistically reach on test day, accounting for travel and accommodation.
Step 4: Generate the Fee Invoice and Pay
After selecting your center, the system generates a 1Link Consumer ID / 1Bill invoice number — a unique multi-digit code tied to your application. This is what you pay against; you never type in a card number on a random site.
How to pay via JazzCash
- Open your JazzCash app.
- Scroll to "Education" or search for "Corporate / 1Link".
- Select 1Bill (Invoice / Voucher).
- Enter the unique Consumer ID generated by the ETC portal.
- Confirm the payment and take a screenshot of the receipt — keep it until your roll number slip arrives.
Paying via EasyPaisa or a banking app
The same invoice works across the 1Link network: in EasyPaisa choose 1Bill/Bill Payment, or in your bank's app go to bill payments and select the 1Bill option. Enter the same Consumer ID, confirm, and save the receipt screenshot. The fee is typically around Rs 1,800, though HEC can adjust it — always check the amount shown on your generated invoice before paying.
Step 5: Verify Your Payment (The Step Everyone Misses)
Do not close the portal after paying. This is where the majority of students sabotage themselves: paying the fee does not automatically complete your application.
Go back to the ETC portal, open your LAT application, and click "Verify Online Payment." The portal talks to the 1Link system and confirms your payment. Only then does your status change from "Saved" to "Submitted." If it still says "Saved," you are not registered — no matter how much you paid. Check your status one final time, and take a screenshot of "Submitted" for your own peace of mind.
LAT Registration Fee 2027 (Indicative)
HEC sets the LAT fee per session. The figures below are based on recent sessions — treat them as indicative and always confirm the exact amount on your ETC portal invoice before paying.
| Item | Typical Amount |
|---|---|
| LAT registration fee | Rs 1,800 (approx.; HEC may revise for 2027) |
| 1Link transaction charges | Nominal (a few rupees, depends on the channel) |
| Total outlay | Roughly Rs 1,800–2,000 |
Payment channels: 1Bill invoice through JazzCash, EasyPaisa, or any bank's mobile app. HEC no longer accepts old-style physical bank challans for LAT, so don't go standing in a bank queue with a printed slip.
Documents Checklist
Keep these ready before you start filling the form — it makes the whole process take under 45 minutes:
- CNIC (or B-Form if under 18)
- Active mobile number (for OTPs and roll-slip alerts)
- Active email address you actually check
- Passport-size photo, blue/white background, under 2MB
- Matric result details (roll number, year, board)
- Inter/FA/FSc details — or select "Result Awaiting" if your result is pending
- Father's name and date of birth exactly as on your CNIC/B-Form
Registration Deadlines 2027
HEC typically holds 3 to 4 LAT sessions per year, and each session has its own application window. The exact 2027 schedule is announced on the ETC portal — HEC has not published the full 2027 datesheet yet. As a rule of thumb, the last date to apply usually falls 2–3 weeks before the test date, so don't wait for the final reminder SMS to start your application.
| 2027 Session | Typical Window | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Session 1 | January–February | Announced on the ETC portal |
| Session 2 | April–May | Announced on the ETC portal |
| Session 3 | August–September | Announced on the ETC portal |
| Session 4 | November–December | Announced on the ETC portal |
Pro tip for planning: your LAT score is valid for 2 years, and you don't need your FSc result to sit for the exam. Applying in an early 2027 session — even on a hope certificate — means your score is ready when university admissions open in the fall.
The HEC ETC Portal: A Quick Tour
Students also search for the "HEC ETC portal guide" — here's how the portal itself is organized once you're logged in, so nothing catches you off guard:
- Dashboard: shows currently open tests, including active LAT sessions when HEC opens them.
- My Profile: your personal, photo, and education details. Keep this at 100% completion at all times.
- My Applications: every test you've applied for, with its status (Saved / Submitted / Rejected). Your roll number slip downloads from here too.
- Download Roll No. Slip: appears here about a week before your test. Print it — mobile screenshots are not allowed at exam centers.
- Result / Scorecard: your LAT result card appears here after HEC declares results.
One habit that saves students every year: log into the portal once a week during your session window. HEC posts corrections, center updates, and slip notifications there first — not on social media.
5 Mistakes That Get Applications Rejected
- Leaving the application "Saved." Skipping the "Verify Online Payment" step is the number one killer.
- Paying to the wrong place. Fake agents and lookalike websites take your money and register nothing.
- A rejected photograph. Blurry, filtered, or wrong-background photos bounce your application back.
- Wrong test center. Picking a far city "because a friend is going there" and then regretting it — centers lock after submission.
- Dead contact details. An OTP sent to a number you no longer use means you can never log back in.
