🎒 Essentials

Test Day, Slips & Scores — At a Glance

Everything a student asks about the LAT schedule, condensed into quick cards.

Roll Number Slip in 3 Steps

About 7–10 days before your test, watch for the SMS/email alert → log in to etc.hec.gov.pk → "My Applications" → download & print your slip. Mobile screenshots are not accepted at centers — print it the day it arrives.

What to Bring

Printed slip + original CNIC (under 18: original B-Form/Smart Card + original Matric result card with photo) + blue/black ballpoints and a clipboard. Leave phones, smartwatches and all electronics at home.

Paper Structure

75 MCQs + essay (15) + personal statement (10) in 120 minutes. Budget ~45–50 minutes for MCQs, the rest for writing. No negative marking — fill every bubble, even on guesses.

Passing Marks: 50

You need 50 out of 100 to pass. But passing ≠ admission — each university sets its own merit, so aim far above 50. Universities use your best valid score.

Score Valid 2 Years

Your LAT result card stays valid for 2 years from declaration. A 2027 score works for the 2027 and 2028 LLB admission cycles — public and private universities alike.

Unlimited Attempts

No cap on how many times you can sit the LAT. Many toppers took it twice — an early session as a practice run, then a confident re-sit. You can even apply on a "Hope Certificate" before your FSc result.

🧠 Strategy

Which Session Should You Take?

Sit Early

An early-2027 attempt — even as a practice run — gets the pressure off before board exams and the fall admission rush pile up.

Re-sit Freely

No attempt limit, and universities count your best valid score. A first sitting teaches you the hall; the second one wins the merit.

Beat the Rush

The session nearest university deadlines is always the most crowded and stressful. Clear LAT before that wave hits.

Golden rule: don't wait for the complete annual datesheet — HEC announces sessions one batch at a time. Register the moment your target session opens; seats and nearby centers fill fast.

Frequently asked questions

When is the next LAT test in 2027?
HEC typically holds 3 to 4 LAT sessions per year, announced session by session on the ETC portal (etc.hec.gov.pk). The full 2027 datesheet has not been officially published yet — use the countdown and session windows above as your expected guide, and confirm every date on the portal.
How many LAT sessions happen in a year?
HEC usually conducts 3–4 LAT exams per year (recent years have seen January, April/May, August/September, and November windows; 2026 had five batches). There is no limit on attempts, so you can sit in multiple sessions.
When do roll number slips come?
Roll number slips are issued digitally on the ETC portal roughly 7 to 10 days before each test date. You will usually get an SMS and email alert too. Download and print your slip — mobile screenshots are not accepted at exam centers.
How long is my LAT result valid?
Your official LAT result card remains valid for 2 years from the result declaration date, and you can use it for multiple 5-year LLB admission cycles at public and private universities.
Can I take the LAT before my FSc Part-2 result?
Yes. You can apply on a "Result Awaiting" / "Hope Certificate" basis. Since your score stays valid for 2 years, sitting early — even in the first 2027 session — is a smart strategy that keeps you out of the fall admission rush.
What if my test date clashes with board exams?
Because HEC runs multiple sessions a year and your score is valid for 2 years, you can simply pick the next session. Registering for an early session as a practice run and re-sitting later is a common and legitimate strategy.
Is the LAT held on a weekday or weekend?
HEC has typically scheduled LAT sessions on Sundays, but this is not a fixed rule — always confirm the exact day on your roll number slip and the ETC portal.
Has HEC ever postponed a LAT session?
HEC has occasionally revised announced dates. Treat every published date as provisional until your roll number slip confirms it, and re-check the ETC portal in the final two weeks before your test.
