How Karachi law admissions actually work
Every law college in Karachi — public or private — requires a valid HEC LAT score. LAT is conducted by HEC through the ETC portal, and without clearing it (50+ marks), you can't enter any LLB program in Pakistan. But LAT is just the entry ticket: each university then applies its own merit formula, usually combining your LAT score, intermediate marks and matric marks.
Public-sector seats are the most competitive. SZABUL, as Pakistan's first dedicated law university, draws applicants from across Sindh and beyond. The University of Karachi's School of Law sits inside the city's largest public university, so its merit runs high too. Private options like DHA Suffa offer modern campuses and smaller batches — but verify HEC recognition and Pakistan Bar Council affiliation before you pay a single rupee in fees.
What LAT score should you target?
For public universities in Karachi, treat 50 as the floor, not the goal. In competitive years, closing merits climb well above the passing mark. A LAT score of 60+ keeps you comfortably in the race for public-sector seats, and 65+ makes you competitive nearly everywhere. Private colleges may consider lower scores, but a higher score still means better merit position and sometimes fee discounts.

Application timeline
Karachi law admissions generally open after the LAT result. Each institution runs its own cycle: SZABUL announces on its own website, the University of Karachi through its admissions portal, and private colleges on theirs. Don't wait for one announcement — track each college separately, and keep your documents (matric/inter certificates, LAT result card, CNIC/B-form) ready in advance.
